Selection cellar Maison des Millésimes Paris
Château Les Cabannes is located in the commune of Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens, a few kilometers south of the medieval village of Saint-Emilion. The vineyard covers an area of 7 hectares where three different wines are produced : Saint-Emilion Grand Cru , Saint-Emilion and a small production of red Bordeaux.
Peter and Brigitte Kjellberg , who met while studying oenology in Bordeaux in 1986, acquired the property in 1997. Meanwhile Peter, the first Canadian to graduate in oenology from the University of Bordeaux, trained at the château Haut-Brion in Pessac in 1988, then supported Michel Ponty at Château Grand Renouil (Canon Fronsac) from 1989 to 1996.
In 1997 at Château les Cabannes almost everything had to be done: out of 7 hectares, 5 had to be planted and the buildings had to be built or renovated. Today the vineyard is in full production - the vines planted in 1997 are now mature and complement the old vines originally in place.
The estate has been certified in conversion to organic farming by Ecocert since March 27, 2021.
The vineyard extends over two islets, a 4-hectare islet located in the commune of Saint-Emilion, made up of siliceous clay and iron filth, and a 3-hectare islet in the commune of Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens made up of a hillside of recent gravel from the Dordogne. The grape variety is typical of Saint Emilion - 70% Merlot Noir and 30% Cabernet Franc - at 6000 vines per hectare in Médoc pruning.
For several years, attention has been paid to improving biodiversity in the vines (mechanical tillage, planting of trees and hedges, etc.).
