Description

The neoclassical style of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is the epitome of harmony and understated elegance. This set the tone for more recent reconstructions, where the chosen materials – stone, wood and glass – reveal the play of shadow and light in the passing seasons.

Civilizations, as diverse as they are, share their own sense of justice. These moral values are fundamental. They feed into our language, guide our actions, and illuminate the path of Mankind.

Three of them in particular are cultivated at Pichon Comtesse: handing down expertise, preserving environmental heritage, and maintaining lasting ties with the Bordeaux wine trade.

Terroir:
The Médoc stretches north of Bordeaux, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde Estuary.
A remarkable region with particularly poor soils, consisting of gravel rises on clay subsoil. These light, well-drained soils, resulting from the slow drop in water levels during the Quaternary period, provide ideal conditions for the vines to reveal the outstanding quality of the terroir, under the protective influence of a highly favorable microclimate.

Pichon Comtesse has 102 hectares under vine in a privileged location, a stone’s throw from the Gironde Estuary, in the southern part of the Pauillac appellation. Comprising over 100 vineyard plots, it gives pride of place to the star grape variety of the Médoc, Cabernet-Sauvignon, alongside the other emblematic Bordeaux varieties: Merlot, of course, as well as Cabernet franc and Petit Verdot.

From the depths of the earth to the revelation of a terroir, each vintage writes its own story. Plant engineering, human talent, time-honored intuition and expertise come into play one by one.

Technique:
The journey begins on the tail end of winter; the vines are carefully tended to encourage them to draw their vitality from the soil. Spring warms up the rows and the vines awaken. The sap rises and the buds emerge from their protective shells. Then, under the watchful eye of the teams, the vines unfurl their leaf canopies before the onset of flowering and the emergence of the much-coveted fruit.
