Description

Audacious and innovative, known for often being the last to harvest, Jean-Charles Cazes defined the style of Lynch-Bages in the 1930s. The racy and typical character of the wine placed it in line with the great Pauillacs . It combines structure, finesse and elegance. Generous from its youth, it evolves in its maturity towards more flavors and complexity.

The reputation of the property took shape from 1945 thanks to a series of great vintages . Some, although reputed to be difficult in Bordeaux, prove to be particularly successful in Lynch-Bages . Thus is born a signature, with a deep color and a tannic structure. Over the years, Jean-Michel Cazes, grandson of Jean-Charles, brings more suppleness and sweetness. Precision and distinction have, vintage after vintage, forged the qualitative homogeneity of Lynch-Bages.

At Lynch-Bages, while most of the work is done in the vineyard with Franck Debrais' team, particular care is given to each stage of winemaking, from sorting the bunches on the plot to fining in the environment. calm and subdued cellars.

In techno veritas
Under the responsibility of Nicolas Labenne, 35 people ensure the daily monitoring of the Lynch-Bages vineyard. Since 2006, the parcel division has been particularly refined by the use of satellite technologies combined with surveys on the quality of the soil . This increased attention, guarantee of preservation of the genetic heritage of Lynch-Bages, has made it possible to establish an extremely precise cartography and redivision of the plots to preserve, enhance and perpetuate the specificity of the terroir .

Human hand and technical progress
Assisted by high-performance technologies for real-time supervision and analysis, the hand of man orchestrates the harvest and then the vinification, carried out by grape variety , maturity and terroir . The challenge is then the construction of personalities by plot. Once the alcoholic fermentation is complete, draining and devatting are carried out according to the phenolic potential of each tank to promote optimal extraction of tannins.

Assembly
After the time of maceration , then that of running off , pressing and malolactic fermentation comes, in December, the assembly. This complex composition of the great wine varies from year to year, depending on the behavior of the plots with the climatic conditions of the vintage. A college of experts chaired by Jean-Charles Cazes and the technical team made up of Daniel Llose, Nicolas Labenne and Jérôme Le Roux, then develops and defines the blend suitable for aging the great wine of Lynch-Bages.

Barreling and aging
First and second Lynch-Bages wines are then aged in the property's cellar and put into stave oak barrels, whose aromatic capacities are revealed by heating by renowned coopers . Before becoming an object of pleasure, a time of rest is necessary for the wine to refine and find the balance of its enhancement by the oak. Regular rackings , fining to harmonize, all the art of the winemaker is expressed before bottling at the château and ageing.

A cultural practice of reasoned control
Lynch-Bages has implemented a series of measures aimed at reducing the environmental impact caused by the production of its wine. In particular , grass cover , tillage by plowing, environmental selection of products, placement of sexual disruption capsules (against cochylys and eudemis cluster worms), mass selection of Petit Verdot or reprocessing of waste water from winemaking.
