Description

an area of 10.6 hectares including 1.3 of Grand Cru Rosacker and 0.5 hectares of Grand Cru Schlossberg, the family estate is very fragmented; it covers four communes: Hunawihr (headquarters of the farm), Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr and Kientzheim. Jean-Luc and Anne MADER took over the exploitation of the vines in 1981 and then embarked on the elaboration and marketing of wines interrupted for a generation. Their son Jérôme joined them in 2005 after his oenological studies.

The calcareous, marnocalcary and sandstone terrains are expressed through the different grape varieties of Alsace, and often give the wines high-quality characters. Convinced that wine originates in the vineyard and on a terroir, Jean-Luc and Jérôme have converted the estate into organic cultivation since 2007. Therefore, no chemicals are used. The control of diseases is ensured by natural products (sulfur and Bordeaux mixture) and homeopathic dilutions. The control of natural grasses is ensured by moaving and plowing. The harvest is of course manual, and the pressing is carried out in whole grapes, not crushed, in pneumatic press.

Fermentations in stainless steel tanks start at low temperatures, and sometimes last until March. This is followed by rearing on fine or total lees until the first filtrations usually taking place in April.

We will be delighted to give you a tour of our estate to make you discover the history of our Armagnacs, the work we do and the steps in the process of making our bottles.
We would be very happy to be able to welcome you to the domaine jean luc Mader

Domaine Jean-luc MADER: Upon his return to the estate in 1981, Jean-Luc Mader left the cooperative winery to set up on his own account and produced beautiful wines in the mid-1980s. After a small stagnation, he returns to plowing, grassing the plots and hunting for residual sugars. The wines of the 2000s find the great style. Graduated in oenology, the son, Jérôme, officially took over the estate in 2005. Wines: pinot blanc is fair, digestible; good level of the grapes with freshness behind, and a clean style. The terroir of Muhlforst is quite tense for the vintage, on spices and white pepper; the wine is chissed and toned. The Rosacker 2008 is sublime, in a refined version, on a nice background, a rather rich attack, a beautiful length of mouth. The Riesling VT, suave as it should be, is delivered with great finesse and righteousness, all with a persistence of mouth of beautiful craftsmanship. Pinot noir, on the other hand, is not at the level, too much extracted on an average maturity. A nice intense and fruity gewurztarminer, without too much sweetness. The Rosacker Grand Cru impresses with its balance and finesse; lovers of sweetness refrain, but in love with elegance, run! The VT 2007 is close to an SGN in terms of confit; the mouth is sweet, tasty on bergamot and kumquat. The balance is good. See less
