Domaine Jean-luc MADER: Upon his return to the estate in 1981, Jean-Luc Mader left the cooperative winery to set up on his own account and produced beautiful wines in the mid-1980s. After a small stagnation, he returns to plowing, grassing the plots and hunting for residual sugars. The wines of the 2000s find the great style. Graduated in oenology, the son, Jérôme, officially took over the estate in 2005. Wines: pinot blanc is fair, digestible; good level of the grapes with freshness behind, and a clean style. The terroir of Muhlforst is quite tense for the vintage, on spices and white pepper; the wine is chissed and toned. The Rosacker 2008 is sublime, in a refined version, on a nice background, a rather rich attack, a beautiful length of mouth. The Riesling VT, suave as it should be, is delivered with great finesse and righteousness, all with a persistence of mouth of beautiful craftsmanship. Pinot noir, on the other hand, is not at the level, too much extracted on an average maturity. A nice intense and fruity gewurztarminer, without too much sweetness. The Rosacker Grand Cru impresses with its balance and finesse; lovers of sweetness refrain, but in love with elegance, run! The VT 2007 is close to an SGN in terms of confit; the mouth is sweet, tasty on bergamot and kumquat. The balance is good.
