Description

The vineyard is located on the second and third terraces of the Lot which come partly from the Massif Central (pebbles, quartz, gravel,...) and also from the alluvium of the Lot. A strip of red clay crosses the vineyards of Clos de Gamot, giving exceptional properties to this terroir. The winegrowers of Domaine Jouffreau have been working for decades with wooden barrels and our steps with new wood barrels so as not to modify the potential of their grapes. This makes unique wines, from an exceptional contecte.

Come and discover at the property the integrity of our family history and discover our collection of old tools from the vineyard and cellars.

"Around 1290, we find in Prayssac the Jouffreau who were landowners, ploughmen, merchants ... In 1450, we find in the combe of Bélaye, at the bottom of the meander of Prayssac fields and vineyards: the Clos de Gamot belongs to this terroir ... In 1610, the Jouffreau family built in the middle of the vineyards the house that still houses his descendants today... » Through the centuries, the Jouffreau Family at clos de Gamot, works the vine, raises the wine and lives to the rhythm of the hours of glory or misfortune of the wine of Cahors. The misfortune came in 1882 by the phylloxera which began to attack the vineyard of Clos de Gamot. The vine is dying. Guillaume Jouffreau then on the farm, took during the winters of winebnb.com , the last branches of Malbec of some preserved vines and tried several grafts. The Malbec one on the Herbemont rootstock succeeds! These new plants are resistant to phylloxera: Guillaume Jouffreau has just saved the Clos de Gamot vineyard but also the entire Cahors vineyard, which will be replanted largely thanks to clones from the Clos de Gamot vineyards.
