Grange des Peres - 1994

Red

Description

We had the privilege of drinking this Grange des Pères 1994 bottle during an event on great wines from the south before its rating skyrocketed.
The whole identity of Grange des pères was already present in this first vintage produced by Laurent Vaillé. A dark visual with some notes of evolution in the circle of the glass. On the nose, after aeration, notes of thyme, garrigue and sweet spices. Finally on the palate, aromas of blood oranges, cloves, a sprig of black cherry topped with chocolate notes. The wine has been the subject of many comments so much that it has inspired the audience… The sensation on the palate is smooth, the tannins are fine and the wine has a very long finish.

Know a bit more about the domain

Barn of the Fathers…. In just a few decades, it has become one of the most sought-after bottles in Languedoc.
How did this area get there?
First the basics: biodynamic cultivation by an experienced Laurent Vaillé who has done his classes in fields that we dream of having on his CV: Trévallon, at Jean-Louis Chave or even Jean-François Coche-Dury.
Then more down to earth: the terroir precisely: 11 hectares located on the terroir of Aniane composed of stones in the Arboussas massif, grape varieties composed of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet-Sauvignon and more marginally Counoise.
Then come the work in the winery and in the cellar: manual harvesting, vinification according to the rules of the art in indigenous yeasts, long maceration, plot and varietal by varietal. Obviously, the wines are neither fined nor filtered.
Aging of around 24 months depending on the vintages of the Grande des Pères
Result: wines of great aging, explosive, of great aromatic complexity, unique in their genre and in the taste style. Any wine lover must have tasted a Father's Barn at least once!
