Description
The vineyard consists of 30 hectares on the commune of Cairanne, on the left bank of the Rhône.
It is made up of old vines, sometimes centuries old.
The vines, established in half-hills, as well as the different grape varieties used, bring their richness to the wines of the estate.
It is an clay-limestone soil, stony on the surface, which allows good drainage. Its south-facing sunshine favours generous and full-bodied wines.
Our old vines are strengthened and only dead vines are replaced by mass-breeding plants. Thus, our Cairanne vintages have a natural yield of less than 30 hectolitres/hectare.

For our younger vines, more work is needed to maintain a maximum yield of 40 hectolitre. At the waist, we limit it to four carriers per cep.
The pruning and stripping are practiced for better aeration of the grapes, so the maturity is more homogeneous. The work of the soil is carried out with adapted tools that pass at the level of the vines. Between each pass, time is allowed for the grass to regrow without competing with the vine.
For red wines, the Grenache grape dominates. Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan complete it for the blending of our different vintages. They produce warm wines with deep colours and aromas of ripe fruit and spices.
For white wines, the Clairette, Grenache blanc, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier grapes are planted on sandy and earlier plots, and give our cuvée a beautiful aromatic palette, freshness and a lot of length in the mouth.

At Domaine André BERTHET-RAYNE, the passion for vines has been passed down for 5 generations. The story begins in 1880, when the great-grandfather owned 6 hectares of vines on the farm, as well as a few plots of olive trees and arable land. The implantation of the vines later evolved through the care of André's father Paul. His work fostered a more abundant culture, allowing the construction of the wine cellar in 1977. Over the years, the exploitation of the vineyard has increased. Today, it is André accompanied by his wife Marina, and their daughter and son-in-law, Alexandra and Axel, who continue with passion the work done by the ancestors. They farm 30 hectares of this family property in organic farming and thus continue the tradition. See less
