Description

A family story, a passion
A member of a family whose presence in the Vaucluse has been attested since 1550, Hughes is the heir to a strong land tradition and winemaker.

It is to Gabriel and Juliette, Hugues' grandparents, that we owe the rise of the wineries and the destiny of the family. Originally from Séguret, where his father was a farmer of very modest condition, Gabriel married Juliette Chauvet in 1929 and both settled on Juliette's small family farm in Gigondas.

This visionary and persevering couple, with the help of their son Jacques, then acquired, through a lifetime of hard work, the estates that we present to you, and which are today among the most beautiful in the Southern Rhone Valley.

Hugues, always accompanied by his father Jacques, was joined by his daughter Aurélie. Today, the three generations are perpetuating the family's heritage together.

We will be delighted to welcome you on a visit to our estate to introduce you to the history of our estate, the work done in the vineyards, the stages of the process of making our wines followed by a tasting of several of our vintages.

Looking forward to welcoming you

Valori Estate history The Domaine de Valori is located on the commune of Courthézon. Created in 1935, it owes its name to the place said on which it is located. It has been operated by the MEFFRE family since 1967. The vineyard With an area of 8 hectares it is composed of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Mourvèdre. The average age of the vineyard is about 35 years. The terroir on which it is located is composed of pebbles and safre, and is renowned for its quality. Gigondas Domain of the Daysse Daysse history Acquired in 1934 by Gabriel MEFFRE and owned by the family since then, the Daysse estate is now owned by Jacques and Hugues MEFFRE. Located on the particularly stony clay-limestone terrace overlooking the Trignon Valley, the estate probably owes its name to a Mr. DAYSSE mentioned in 1769 in the civil register as owner in Gigondas. A beautiful Provençal building built before the French Revolution and located in the heart of the vineyard remained unoccupied for a long time because it was supposedly haunted. Stripped of this false reputation, it was once again inhabited from 1936, regaining its original function as an agricultural estate. The vineyard With an area of 15 hectares, its terroir is very homogeneous. The grape variety consists of 55% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, allowing for a perfect balance thanks to the complementarity of these three grape varieties. St Anne's Estate St. Anne's history It is a now-defunct chapel that gave its name to Domaine Sainte-Anne. A statue placed in a niche of a nearby wall is the last vestige that recalls its existence. Owned for at least 250 years by the same family and passed down from generation to generation, the Estate currently belongs to the three children of Professor Robert Devin who was an eminent surgeon at the Hospital de la Timone in Marseille and who presided over the National Academy of Surgery. Alongside his professional career, he was a lifelong advocate of wine. The magnificent building of the Domain dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. With a small wooded park made up of multiple Provencal species, it is located, along with the Syrah plot, in an enclosure. Inside you can discover what remains of the old cellar where the period vats have been kept intact, as well as various winemaking tools. The vineyard With an area of five hectares, Domaine Sainte-Anne consists of four hectares of very old grenaches of nearly 80 years planted on a plot of scrubland, and a hectare of younger syrah that offer an excellent complement to the grenaches. The management of the vineyard and the winemaking of the Domaine have been entrusted to the MEFFRE family for three generations and it is now Hugues MEFFRE who is responsible. Plan Of God Domaine du Bois des Dames Ladies' Wood history The Domaine du Bois des Dames is probably one of the oldest estates in the so-called "Plan of God" place, located in the heart of the Côtes-du-Rhône. Created in the aftermath of the war by Gabriel MEFFRE and his son Jacques, its development was a real challenge for the time, because of the difficulty that the cobbles created for the work of the land. This 100-hectare estate takes its name from the thick oak woods and pastures that once covered part of these areas. These woods were the property of the religious ladies removed in a high valley of the hills of Gigondas, at the convent of Prébayon hence the name of the Wood of the Ladies. After the revolution of 1789, the property of this convent was confiscated and the woods sold. In 1957, Gabriel set out to rebuild the estate by buying back with great perseverance all the scattered plots, a venture that took him more than twenty years. Gabriel, the founder is now gone and his grandson Hugues replaced him with Jacques. Plea to heaven that generations follow each other in this way for a long time. See less
