Description

An estate in Beaujolais
The Domaine du Petit Peru is located in the Beaujolais vineyard, 400 km south of Paris and 50 km north of Lyon.
We have 3 main buildings for the development and conservation of our wines:

The winery, with a capacity of 1200 hectolitres, is mainly composed of cement vats
The barrel cellar with 100 pieces of 228 Litres
The 240 m2 bottle storage cellar is located below the home and can hold 50,000 bottles
Grapes and appellations
We operate 18 hectares of vineyards including 10 hectares in Cru Morgon, planted mostly on clay soils, only 3 hectares of vines on sandy soils.
We also have 1.5 hectares of Morgon Côte de Py, the hill overlooking the Morgon where the suns are stony and three riches in micronutrients.
Chardonnays are planted south of clay-limestone soils. Most of our vineyard plots are located on the Estate for simplified work.

JEAN THEVENET 1886 – 1958 The 4 hectares in Morgon were operated live, vinified by Jean THEVENET and sold to traders. The 4.5 hectares in Brouilly on the commune of Quincié were cultivated by a sharecropping company, the half harvest going to Jean THEVENET was also marketed to traders. Jean THEVENET exploited his property through two wars. It was very difficult in these conditions to expand the operation. Life was hard. Families had a hard time living. Vine disease (Mildiou - Oidium), frost, hail did not allow production for a living. It was the time of cows, horses, pigs, chickens, rabbits, ... The farm included meadows to feed the mini farm. Henri Thevenet HENRI THEVENET 1920 – 1991 Its vocation was not that of viticulture. The war stopped him in his pharmacy studies. After the war in 1945, he took over the management of the Domaine du Petit Peru. The 4.5 hectares of Brouilly were sold to the long-standing sharecropping company. Of course, Henri THEVENET, the only son who inherited all the vines in the Morgon appellation, was added to the inheritance of his in-laws, plus a few purchases in Morgon. The property has grown to 12 hectares. A dozen in morgon appellation, and two in Beaujolais. Henri THEVENET was a forerunner of the bottle sale directly to the property. Not passionate about the work of the vine, but good manager, he has sold a very healthy property, with already a good potential for selling bottles. The property was shared between his three children. Roger Thevenet ROGER THEVENET 1948 Forty years of presence on the farm, including thirty years of marketing in Paris and its suburbs. The mis-selling of the 1970s forced him to imitate the Auvergnats and to go and sell his wine. A very nice clientele has been created. Supplier in Morgon of the best Parisian wine bistros. The estates left him only 3.50 hectares of vines in 1977. The Little Peru Estate had to be rebuilt. In 1985, it was moved to 10 hectares of property following various acquisitions with Laurent. Since 1995, the entire crop has been marketed in bottles. It is difficult to leave what we love, he continues to lead a life of semi-active retiree at the Domaine du Petit Peru. See less
