Description

Our 135 hectares of vineyards are strategically surrounded and protected by 500 hectares of scrubland, constituting a rich ecosystem and a unique environment.

Located some 30 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea with altitudes ranging from 100 to 180 meters, the Caraguilhes vineyard is exposed to a north-westerly wind (the Tramontane) that naturally sanitizes the vines by limiting cryptogamic diseases (mushrooms) and the density of insect pests. This wind also induces an ambient freshness in the vineyard during the hot summer days, which helps to maintain good levels of acidity in the grapes and ensure a slower and more complete maturation.

We then offer you a tasting of our best wines.
All this in a warm atmosphere, and a pleasant setting!
We have is to see you soon for a visit to our Domain and a tasting of our wines!

Since Greek merchants introduced the cultivation of vines there more than 2000 years ago, the Corbières region in Languedoc has been intrinsically linked to winemakers and wine. Realizing that the conditions were ideal for cultivating vines in Corbières, Cistercian monks began to develop this culture in the region as early as the 12th century. These monks were known to be very savvy winemakers and quickly their agricultural estates became very prosperous. Caraguilhes was one of these areas and one of the most important. Ideally located on the Boutenac terroir, Caraguilhes covers an area of 600 hectares comprising a vineyard of more than 100 hectares in one piece, surrounded by 500 hectares of scrubland. The scrubland forms around the vine a grandiose and natural circus that protects the arable land like a jewel. Never fragmented in history, Caraguilhes has remained intact and has preserved its integrity and authenticity. Centuries later, in 1958, Lionel Faivre, a winemaker well established in Algeria, took over Caraguilhes with the aim of perpetuating the tradition of the property and making an authentic wine, a mirror of its terroir. Lionel was then a pioneer in the introduction of organic cultivation of the vineyard by using sustainable organic techniques. His refusal to use chemical fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides was not included at the time. Almost 30 years later, he completed the evolution of Caraguilhes by adopting a fully organic production method. In 1998, Lionel, unable to run Caraguilhes, made a regret decision to sell his vineyard. He meets Pierre Gabison and a partner and is convinced that their partnership can succeed in carrying the proud tradition of a production philosophy focused on organic quality, started 40 years ago. In 2005, Pierre Gabison, deeply enamored of The wines of Caraguilhes and the region, took over the management of Caraguilhes. He wanted to keep the passion that reigned around the vineyard and the castle. Pierre sums up his course of action very simply: to produce an authentic wine of high quality, from healthy vines, which offers a natural expression of the different terroirs of Caraguilhes.
