Description

The Domain that Pascal Berthelot has passed on to us has been located in Montlouis-sur-Loire for five generations. The exploitation (as was done a lot at the time) was then in polyculture, and the vine, whose grapes are mainly sold in trade or cooperative, represents about 5 hectares. In the 1980s, Pascal Berthelot decided to devote himself solely to viticulture and took the opportunity to replant vines and enlarge the estate.

Today, with the know-how and the need for demand that Pascal has passed on to us, we lead our domain with an awakened sense for the earth and for the deep connection that binds us to nature.

Our vines are planted on soils composed, on the surface, of clay, sand and flint. But what makes our terroir special is the basement in which the roots of The Chenin lie. The Tuffeau, also called chalk or Turonian limestone, reigns supreme. Accessible at a depth varying depending on the sector, it transmits finesse and strength of character to our wines. This set allows our vines to make the most of the warmth of the sun, stored during the day and returned at night by the flints. The basement perfectly regulates the supply of water and minerals, preventing our vines from suffering from water stress and promoting the balance of the plant. Perfect conditions for the production of great white wines from Chenin.

At Domaine de la Croix Mélier, we manage a sixteen hectare vineyard nestled on the left bank of the Loire, between Tours and Amboise, in Montlouis-sur-Loire. We vinify and age the wines at the estate where we welcome you all year round to share the richness of our land and the pleasure of wine. Here, the king of grape varieties is Chenin, established in the 4th century. It gives the wine its exceptional aromatic complexity. The clay-siliceous soil rests on a tufa subsoil. See less
