Description

This tour transports the curious into the daily life of the estate.
From the privileged vantage point of the terrace with a view of the appellation, they discover the specificities of Moulin-à-Vent: its granite soils and their characteristic expression of pink sand, the impact of the winds that blow on the AOC and the estate, or the diversity of the terroirs, of which we can already see 5 out of the 69, with their very different environments. A dive into the Château's past immerses them in 3 centuries of history, alongside the great families who have carried the estate, by dint of faith still intact today.
In the vatting process, we focus on the technical part: explanations of our methods and choices, and here we decipher the genesis of our wines, from the harvest to the ageing. The vaulted cellar of the estate, which dates from the end of the sixteenth century, marks the end of the visit.
La Chapelle des Thorins then opens its doors, with 4 wines available for tasting: 3 wines, including 2 parcel selections from the terroirs presented at the beginning of the visit, on the current vintage, as well as a cuvée on an older vintage, in order to appreciate the "vintage effect" on our wines.

Reference domain since 1732, the Château du Moulin-à-Vent is located in the heart of the eponymous appellation. Formerly called Château des Thorins, in reference to the most famous terroir of the appellation, the estate changed its name when the first AOCs were created in 1936, including Moulin-à-Vent. Nestled in the middle of the vineyards, the estate has a chapel at its heart. Former crossroads of the hamlet of "Les Thorins", place of exchange and faith, this chapel was integrated into the property at the end of the 19th century. Located on the emblematic terroir of the appellation from which it inherits its name, it is today a central place for welcoming visitors to the estate. What better place to enjoy a unique wine tasting experience than this place, steeped in the history of the appellation's terroirs? As early as 1872, Burgundy villages were allowed to add the name of their best terroir to their names: "Chambertin", "Romanée", "Montrachet" and "Thorins" complete the names of the villages of Gevrey, Vosne, Puligny and Romanèche. 150 years later, our exclusive location on Moulin-à-Vent allows a detailed understanding of the geological and climatic contexts. Of the 23 lieux-dits we work with, 6 major terroirs have been identified, whose individuality we cultivate. They are called " Le Moulin-à-Vent ", " Les Thorins ", " Aux Caves ", " Les Vérillats ", " Champ de Cour " and " La Rochelle ". Located within a radius of 300 meters around the Chapel, they stand on the middle and upper part of the appellation, the most qualitative. Each of them is expressed in our single vineyard cuvées: available for tasting at La Chapelle, they allow you to grasp the essence of the Moulin-à-Vent terroirs, through their nuances and depths. La Chapelle is also a unique and rare opportunity to taste more mature wines. Convinced that time is a beautiful thing, we keep in the cellars of the Château a part of each vintage harvested, witness of the history of the domain and its evolution. A few bottles of these old vintages are available at the Chapel; from 2000 to today, the wines of the estate can be appreciated in their youth as well as in their maturity. Set in the middle of the "Thorins" hillsides, the Chapel finally offers a total and complete immersion in the life of the historic estate that surrounds it. The visits take the curious from the adjoining vineyards to the age-old cellar (16th century); passing through the doors of the cuvage, they can meet the cellar master and watch the elaboration of our wines, sublimated by fine and delicate vinification and maturation methods.
