THE FOUNDERS Orphaned by his father at the age of 2 Ernest grew up in La Blache du Mazel in the commune of Champis. In 1907, he left the farm to his older brother and decided to settle in Saint-Péray with his wife where they had the opportunity to become farmers of the Beylesse. The First World War forced Ernest to go to the front in 1914. His wife Louise remains alone with their 4 children. It deals with milking cows, grain plantations, fruit harvesting, harvesting and vinifying. Louise writes to Ernest every day. She sent him parcels of clothes, but also bottles of sparkling Saint-Péray that Ernest asked him to taste them with his comrades. In return, he wrote advice on crop management and the sale of products. Back in 1918, Ernest is surely a bruised man. In 1936, with his son Paul, he planted the Suchat vine, which is still in production today. This vine is the common thread between the four generations. ERNEST NODIN LOUISE GRIPPA SPOUSE NODIN BOATMEN Paul Nodin & Blanche Pabion marries Nodin Paul is the eldest of the siblings. His father's departure for the war pushed him very early on to take responsibility. Blanche also experienced her father's absence during the Great War. With Paul she gives up 3 children. The Second World War forced the family to abandon the Beylesse for a few days in 1944 during the landing in the Mediterranean. La Beylesse, a strategic place on the national road 86, was the site of skirmishes between Germans, resistance fighters and Americans. After the war, Paul became a founding member of the fruit cooperative of Saint-Péray and he delivered his grape harvest to the cooperative of Tain l'Hermitage. Builder at heart, Paul has a talent for carpentry. He built wooden buildings, frames and furniture that made the Beylesse a prosperous estate. VISIONARIES François Nodin & Bernadette Boule marries Nodin Bernadette Boule is the daughter of a winemaker in Saint-Germain in the south of Ardèche. She married Francois Nodin in 1970. Her mother was worried about letting her daughter go to the Rhone Valley where fog is common! Their business begins at the end of the glorious thirty. The proximity of the city and the agricultural situation require them to stop breeding and specialize. Supported by his wife, François is an entrepreneur and a true manager. They professionalize their business. In 1971 they launched the direct sale of their fruits to consumers. They regroup the domain weakened by the successions and develop the arboreal production in the commune of Soyons. At a time when saint-pérollaise viticulture is experiencing its inexorable decline they have the audacity in 1985 to replant in vine the hillside of the Beylesse, abandoned to pastures for several decades. François's dynamism calls him to become a municipal councillor of Saint-Péray and to continue this commitment with two terms as deputy mayor. He was also president of the supply cooperative of Saint-Péray and president of the Irrigation Union of the commune of Soyons. He would not have been able to build this building without bernadette's unwavering support. A few days before his disappearance on May 1, 2012, he confided to Bernadette his satisfaction with the duty accomplished, that their six children had a home and that they were launched into working life. today Rémy Nodin & Amandine Belle wife Nodin Rémy Nodin represents the fourth generation. At the age of 22 he created the Domaine Rémy Nodin with 1 hectare of Saint-Péray rented to his parents. His first 2008 vintage was soon noticed. It is now far from the time when the child crushed his grapes and was surprised to produce only vinegar! Remy is driven by the duty to honor his forefathers and to perpetuate the domain. "If it is true that the wine is in the image of the winemaker, which makes its charm, it is not presumptuous to imagine that the wines of the Domaine de la Beylesse are in the image of its winemaker, noble and generous" (Hélène de Montgolfier, Cornas Le petit arpent du Bon Dieu, edition Au fils du Rhône) The wives of winegrowers have at all times played an essential role. Like Margueritte, Louise, Blanche and Bernadette with their husbands, Amandine is present with Rémy from the beginning of the adventure. She assists him on the estate while reconciling family life with their 4 children. See less
