In Celtic astrology, the oak is robust, courageous, strong... And grit and courage, it took for Marc and Dominique when in 1985 they became winemakers. Since his graduation from the wine school of Mâcon Davayé, Marc has been looking for an estate and some vines to buy. Dominique was then an employee at the Post Office but she fully supported him in his research. Their initial research area was in Beaujolais but no opportunity was available to them. It was then that Marc's uncle took them to the Chavanay Wine Market where they heard about a winery for sale in the same village. After many negotiations, they became owners of an old farm and a few hectares of vines. Dominique then engages with Marc on the farm. Together, they renovated the old building in order to develop on site. You have to take care of the vine too, and then they have to build a winemaking cuvage. In a few years they built the Domaine du Chêne, a tribute to the tree they kept at the entrance of the farm. Much later, they learned that the etymology of ROUVIERE came from a place covered with OAKS... chance does things right... Vitis Vinifera is contagious... Passionate about their profession, Marc and Dominique manage to transmit their values to Anaïs and Julien. The latter settled on the Domaine du Chêne in September 2012. They have also done wine studies and internships in France and abroad (California and New Zealand). Everyone has their own speciality but they support and complement each other. Marc ensures the management of the plantations and the follow-up of the vinifications. Dominique is the saleswoman and the secretary of the estate, at the harvest, she takes the cap of team leader! Anaïs manages the social part and the packaging and shipments part. Julien is the chief mechanic of the vineyard and the winemaker in the cellar! Little by little, they structure their property, the buildings and the vineyard expand. Proud as a Rouvière... Friendly proverb of the chavanois which represents well the strong characters of Mark and Dominic. They engage on all fronts, winemakers, winemakers and commercial, nothing stops them! In 1987 and again in 1989, they also became parents, Anaïs and Julien arrived in their lives. To each they offer an eponymous cuvée, Anaïs is entitled to a red Saint Joseph from the old vineyards of the estate and Julien becomes a late harvest of Condrieu. See less
