Description

Whisky enthusiasts and seasoned entrepreneurs, Yves Médina and Jean Philippe Ballanger joined forces in 2014 around a unique project: redeveloping an old bunker to install a distillery! Three years later, Moon Harbour opened its doors. For Bordeaux, this is the beginning of a new chapter: the city now has a whisky distillery in its walls. For the two founders, it is the continuation of a friendship of more than 30 years.
Moon Harbour
This name, it owes it to the famous crescent moon that draws the Garonne at the entrance of the city, so emblematic of it that it appears on its coat of arms! Nice way to remember that in the past, on the cobblestones of the aptly named Port de la Lune, the barrels with dock stamped "Bordeaux" were waiting to be embarked at night on the departing ships...
We would be very happy to be able to welcome you in our field!

The first craft industry in bordeaux's new bassins à flot It is far away, fortunately, the time when German submarines were sheltered there! In this port area, a new district is emerging. And it is an understatement to say that moon harbour, created in 2014 in a dynamic market, is the driving force behind it. By choosing an old bunker to install its headquarters and distillery, it not only stimulates the economy of these places gradually rehabilitated, but also contributes to their cultural influence. This is how the architectural project of the distillery – whose work was carried out between December 2016 and September 2017 – was validated by the workshops of the Bassin à Flot, but also supported, among others, by the City of Bordeaux, the Grand Port of Bordeaux and the Aquitaine Region. Enough to give a new impetus to these places and perpetuate the tradition of exchange of Bordeaux, a city both rooted in its history and always open, wind from the sea obliges, to other horizons. After 3 years of distillation, the 1st SINGLE MALT MOON HARBOUR have finally matured, and bottled! Exhaling new flavors and enriched with their aging in barrels of great Bordeaux wines, you can discover the range of DOCK 1, in bottles screen-printed from the Bordeaux menu in filigree, and stamped with the logos of the Bordeaux castles that provided the barrels. This whisky, 100% Malted Barley, grown in Gironde, is the result of a single distillation, sweet and slow, which preserves the aromatic qualities of the raw materials. the DOCK 1 undergo various agings, in the colors of the Châteaux of the Bordeaux vineyard: Château Rieussec, 1st grand cru Sauternes, Château Haut-Bergeron, Sauternais, and Château La Louvière, red wine from Léognan. To come, the range of DOCK 2: Yves & Jean-Philippe offer in world exclusivity a whisky 100% Maïs Malté! This DOCK, pure malt whisky, has been aged for 3 years in barrels from Sauternais, barrels from Château La Louvière, but also barrels from Château Cantenac Brown, from the Margaux region." See less
