Château des B.
Description

Like many European wine regions including Burgundy with the famous Romanée-Conti or Le Clos de Tart, the Château des Bachelards owes its existence to the Benedictine monks. It was indeed around the year 1100 that the monks of the abbey of Cluny created one of the many daughters of Cluny, the abbey of Arpayé and chose to plant its vineyard on the place called Les Bachelards. They thus draw the clos which still exists, with the seventeenth house and the outbuildings of the abbey which, it was destroyed during the Revolution. It is a family of notables of the region, the Platets, who buys the house and its vineyard still surrounded by a wall. Exceptionally, the Platet family then became Lombard-Platet, remained the owner of the Château des Bachelards from 1793 to 2007! During this long period, château des Bachelards is ranked among the best estates in the region, its terroirs are judged as remarkable, well located and well exposed in the abundant wine literature of the nineteenth century and its quality is recognized. This is evidenced by the silver medals obtained at the World's Fairs in London and Paris.
We would be delighted to welcome you to make you discover the estate and its history and the work done to develop our wine!
Looking forward to seeing you again

The Château des Bachelards is both: 1. an estate producing wines triple certified Organic and Biodynamie Demeter and Biodyvin, exceptional wines that are the best rated by critics and get the highest notes of Beaujolais. 2. a domain committed to wine tourism and we will be very happy to welcome you to the estate with family or friends, in order to share with you our passion. Visits to the vineyard, picnic in the organic vineyards where you have nothing to fear because there is zero chemistry, BARchelards (wine bar) in season with hot and cold tapas from 8 €. (for example: crispy zucchini leaves, small Provencal stuffed, pizzeta with garden tomatoes, risotto with vegetables, pâté in crust, poultry skewers, etc.) Here's what our customers say about the Château des Bachelards in Fleurie: " A new style of Fleurie was born." "The vines haven't seen chemistry for over 15 years and this changes the style of the wine. It's another world." "It's hard to guess your AOC blindly." "Your wines are alive, they are local, they are unlike any other." "Your wines are the elegance of Burgundy and the gluttony of Rhone wines." " The blue clays* of the Bachelard plots make the wine incomparable." * similar to that of Petrus for example and unique in Beaujolais. PIONEERING WORK & AVANT-GARDE PHILOSOPHY The vineyard of the Château des Bachelards was created by the Benedictine monks of Cluny around the year 1100. It is the southernmost monastic vineyard of Burgundy and the wines are part of this lineage. We are the pioneers of organic and biodynamics of the Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent and Saint-Amour appellations and triple certified organic FR-BIO-15 and biodynamic Demeter and Biodyvin. The vineyards are in one piece around the castle surrounded by hedges and our agroforestry project. This allows us to benefit from a unique and privileged biotope. If we are committed to producing a local wine while respecting the terroir and the environment, there is no other solution than the cultural mode that is ours. Our floors have been free of chemistry for over 15 years and this changes the style of the wines. Indeed, the wines of the region are often standardized by chemically weeded soils and then levurés. Few professionals blindly recognize our names as the style is unique. Our soils are alive and so are the wines. Today chemical agriculture (so-called reasoned or conventional) serves no purpose other than to lower production costs to the detriment of quality, taste, and at what price for humanity? On the side of the winery and winemaking, the estate does not practice carbonic maceration, semi-carbonic, or thermovinification which are the so-called beaujolaises winemaking methods born in the 1970s. In my opinion, this is a negation of the terroir in addition to the use of chemistry. At Château des Bachelards, we do not use any artificial yeast. The wines have their own identity and only look like themselves, they are local. The estate does not practice the purchase of grapes. The Château des Bachelards is a pioneer in Fleurie in many ways: - Agroforestry in the vineyards for the balance of the biotope and biodiversity - Ushant sheep for their presence alone and for the fertilization of the soil - Naturally arrived bees and a permaculture vegetable garden - The herbalism of the castle for our biodynamic herbal teas - High trellising in acacia stakes because we are looking for the complexity of the grapes - Very high density (10,000 feet per hectare), small yields - Very old vines in mass selection because the plants of the Bachelards are unique - Manual harvest, gravity reception, so as not to damage the fruits - Indigenous yeasts only, otherwise the wines are technological and they are not local - Breeding from 18 to 20 months because our terroir requires it, proof of its greatness - Never chemistry, only natural and no carbonic or thermovinification - Member of Renaissance des Appellations, the group of major estates from around the world in biodynamic agriculture, member of the Group of Abbey Wines (because Bachelards is a former Abbey), labeled Vineyards and Discoveries (we love to receive and share our passion), winner of the Trophy of wine tourism of the 100 best properties in France, etc. - The only Monopoly of Fleurie and one of the few in Beaujolais with Le Clos des Bachelards.
