Description

the vineyard is divided into two homogeneous subsets. On the plateau of Martillac, the rump overlooking the property is composed of a mosaic of bass.
These small pebbles deposited in the Quaternary by the Garonne form a scholarly and harmonious mixture of quartz, Lydiennes, jaspes and flint.
These poor and draining soils are an ideal ground for the vine, especially for the red grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit-Verdot.
As we approach the Garonne, the soils take on a clay-limestone profile, with always some bass on the surface.
It is here that our Merlots and our white grape varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon are best expressed.
We would be delighted to welcome you to make you discover the estate and its history and the work done to develop our wine!
Looking forward to seeing you again

Classified since 1953, the vintage owes its name to the tower adorning its courtyard of honor, vestige of a fort built in the twelfth century by the ancestors of Montesquieu. He attracted the attention of Edouard Kressmann, from the foundation of his firm in 1871. His piece of Grattecap, grafted in 1884 still contains the entire collection of white grape varieties that Edouard had advised the owner of the time. Alfred, Edouard's eldest son, bought the estate in 1930. In 1934, he adopted the current label, "barred with gold and sand" designed by his son Jean. In 1937, the wines of Château LaTour-Martillac will be in the spotlight during the solemn Coronation Dinner of His Majesty George VI. Jean, manager of the estate since 1940 on behalf of his father, inherited it in 1955. He gradually led it to its current dimensions with two of his sons, Tristan and Loïc. Today, Tristan (general administrator) and Loïc (technical director) continue a family tradition that always sacrifices performance to quality, with their team and the help of the best consulting oenologists. White wines surprise with their delicacy, complexity and astonishing ability to age. Like the great Pessac-Léognan, the reds are all in harmony, balance and elegance. See less
