Description

The estate of Château Pique-Sègue is made of hills and valleys that extend to the Dordogne. Entering it is already a sensory odyssey.

The history of the estate dates back more than 700 years, in the heart of the Libourne promontory. The vineyard was already recognized for producing the best wines of Montravel and Bergerac. The Archbishop of Bordeaux listed the estate for the first time in the fourteenth century. A historical anchorage, which will mark the premises of the ascent of the vineyard. At the end of the nineteenth century, Château Pique-Sègue is considered "one of the most beautiful farms in the canton" according to the Guide Féret.

Located on the Libourne promontory, between St Emilion and Bergerac, our vineyard enjoys an exceptional terroir. If Henry IV stopped at the signing of the Treaty of Fleix to water his horse at the source of Pique-Sègue, today it is the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela who cross the road to the vineyard.

Located between St Emilion and Bergerac, the estate extends over the slopes of Libournais, with an area of more than 200 hectares, with 70 ha of vines, as well as a herd of limousine cattle that works for the reproduction of HBL animals, with high genetic value. The distribution of our terroirs is as follows:
– 36 ha of white vines: Sauvignon Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle
– 30 ha of red vines: preponderant Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon.

Among the characteristics of the Montravel terroir, we distinguish the particularity of the soils, above all clay-limestone, through the areas of flint deposition. The presence of Ponchapt limestone testifies to the location at altitude of the terroir, offering, thanks to the southern exposure of the slopes, a natural drainage.

Château Pique-Sègue is also a human, family and warm encounter.
When Philip and Marianne Mallard open the doors of their castle to you, you are instinctively immersed in a captivating journey, at the heart of a family passion of more than a quarter of a century.

Taking the time, a guarantee of quality that cannot be neglected when defending the traditions and values of the terroir.
Philip and Marianne know this, and each of their products bears the guarantee.
In order to preserve the expression of their terroir, implementation of agricultural practices respectful of nature by the consequent reduction of chemical treatments and fertilizers in favor of organic components from cattle breeding.

We will be delighted to welcome you to the property for a tasting of our wines which receive every year many awards at national and international competitions (RVF, Decanter, Hachette with 2** "favorites" in white and red, Bettane & Dessauve)
