Tasting visit: Carthage winemakers

Spoken languages: flag English
de Carthage L.
Description

The birth of viticulture in the Maghreb belongs to the Phoenicians who probably imported varieties of Eastern origin.
The vines then found favourable land in the immediate vicinity of Carthage, in Megara, Amilcar Garden, in Cape Bon, in Byzacene and around towns along the coasts such as Lixus and Sala, whose coins long after the fall of Carthage continued to carry the grape cluster.
Carthage's winemakers are part of a history of viticulture that has never ceased to exist since antiquity in Tunisia. They have a real know-how magnified by a new generation of Tunisian viticulture that perfectly illustrates the place of this country at the heart of Mediterranean history and culture, crossroads of civilizations and land of tourist welcome.
In recent years, this new generation has undertaken a restructuring of the vineyard and an upgrade of technical equipment.
The wines produced today are perfectly adapted to international markets, wines combining modernity and Mediterranean typicality to restore Tunisian wines to the place they deserve among the great historic vineyards.
Our job now is to communicate globally with importers, distributors and consumers, in order to make them discover not only our wines, but also the Tunisian way of life that I will gladly characterize as Mediterranean."
