Domaine du Monteillet - Fortis - 2019 - Côtes Rôtie

Red

Description

Vigorous, the Viognier and Syrah vines, growing on arid, poor and rocky granite soils.
Valiant, the generations of winegrowers who since Roman times have built and maintained the dry stone walls.
Courageous, the winegrowers who still work them manually.
This wine comes from the slopes of blond gneiss soil, south of Ampuis. This terroir allows the power and minerality of the Syrah to perfectly match the fruit and roundness of the Viognier.
The wine has a dark ruby color.
On the nose we have intense aromas of red fruits (blackcurrant), vanilla, and some roasted notes
The mouth is very fine, the tannins are well rounded and melted. Long and silky finish.

Know a bit more about the domain

Since the 17th century, the Monteillet estate has belonged to the Villard family, whose most famous representative is Louis Hector, Duke of Villard, Marshal of France under Louis XIV.
Gradually, Stéphane Montez's ancestors, winegrowers, bargemen, coopers, driven by the love of the Rhone and the work of the vine, bought up the land of the estate parcel by parcel.
A notarized deed from 1741 shows Michel, "master carpenter on the Rhône and cooper", ancestor of Stéphane Montez, buying a vineyard in Monteillet. His descendants, after the Revolution, continued their acquisitions.
Today, Stéphane Montez succeeds his father Antoine, who passed on all his know-how.
Thus the Montez family plant, vinify, raise and market their wines, on 38 hectares and four appellations.
