User profile description

The Domaine de la Bégude is an estate of 600 hectares, including 22 hectares of vineyards, like a balcony on the sea, at the top of the Bandol appellation, swept by the wind named Mistral. 500 years before Christ, this land was already cultivated. For vineyards and olive trees, men have built gigantic steps with stones, the famous terraces that recall the rows of stepped seats of the amphitheaters of antiquity. Twenty centuries later, the vine is still there. Thanks to this masculine will, the nature of this country is preserved, resisting a strong pressure of urbanization around the Mediterranean Sea. La Bégude produces red, rosé and white wines belonging to the AOC Bandol, one of the first appellations in France. The vineyards are located at 400 meters above sea level. From this elevation, the view extends to the bay of La Ciotat and the sea beyond. The sea air constantly softens the climate of this terroir, often extreme. The poverty of the soil and the wind allow us to have wines without excess alcohol or heaviness. The particularity of the Begude is its extraordinary diversity of terroirs and exhibitions. This mosaic of vines reminds us of a palette of colors for an artist. It is surrounded by olive trees and the Mediterranean forest with heavy scents of scrubland.
