Description
In 2007, a little by chance, the farm of Montaquoy becomes owner at the foot of the mountain of Alaric of a small plot of land, a jump from the village of Fontcouverte. There is a masure in poor condition where one can read a date of construction (1783) adorning the façade. The house is surrounded by high walls, a closed surrounding 2.6 hectares of vines. In cassini's map dated 1778, the place bears the beautiful name of the Orte (in Latin: the source, the renewal or the beginning) The vine is unfortunate, poorly maintained, but it has an asset. Thanks to the source of Fontcalel, the plot (quality: "merlot petit grain" planted at 2 x 1.25 m) does not suffer from water stress, even in the heart of the scorching summers of the South. Soil analyses have begun. The rehabilitation work lasts 3 years. The first harvest (a few rows of vines, just to see) will take place in September 2010

At the Chante Cocotte estate, located at the foot of the village of Fontcouverte, the plots cover only 4 hectares. The hundred-year-old vines of Grenache and Macabeu benefit from a limestone soil (white marl and travertine) while the Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc flourish on a loamy terroir of colluvium and alluvium at the bottom of the valley. The berries ripen at their own pace while the leaves are swept by the Cers and the marine, typical winds of the region. Soil analyses reveal a balanced and quality soil, which gives unique organoleptic properties to the grapes. See less
