Description
The Domaine is located in the Lot. However, it does not produce Malbec, so typical of the region and little red wine. Eccentric from the AOC Cahors zone and its calcareous soils, the Bonaguil terroir is atypical. It is these singular soils and their soil study that decided the atypical grape varieties of the Domaine.

Atypical soils and basements in Bonaguil
Here, the limestone thins until it practically disappears under red and ocher soils covered with siderolithic sands, rich in iron ores. Siderolithic deposits associated with ferruginous clays, siliceous sands, iron ore nuclei, flints and limestones give rise to balanced, seveux (concentrated, rich in aromas), tense and dense wines.
We would be delighted to welcome you to make you discover the estate and its history and the work done to develop our wine!

Created in 1989 by the owner of a prestigious cognac house, the Domaine de Bonaguil nestles between the Lot, the Lot-et-Garonne and the Dordogne on the heights of the Château de Bonaguil which can also be found on the label of our wines. Perched at 230 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Domaine which has 26 hectares, the vineyard of more than nine hectares flourishes in the middle of pines, oaks and chestnut trees, on the borders of bouriane and the Lot department. A restructuring of the Domaine in 2017 Gradually left in the sole hands of nature for a few years, the Domaine was bought in July 2017 by a couple of Czechs, Barbora and Daniel Donath who fell in love with the place. Accompanied by their two daughters, they were keen to be part of the local economic fabric and to perfectly integrate the cultivation of the vine into its very particular environment. The vineyard, almost abandoned, has undergone profound restructuring to allow the vines, planted since the creation of the Estate in 1989, to regain their superb, but always in deep respect for the surrounding nature. Our philosophy Thus, with the arrival of the Donath family and under the supervision of an experienced Bordeaux consultant inspired by nature, Patrice Hateau, the trellising was restored, temporary sowing and superficial ploughing resumed and the vineyard was planted to replace all the missing vines. Permaculture and agroforestry have been abounded, these traditional methods of land use consist of different crops being grown at the same time on the same land. The vine has regained its former vigor and seems happy with this renewal. A team with little care of the vineyard The Donaths have been able to give the desire to do well to the domaine team by transmitting respect for the place and its actors. The women and men of the vineyard take the time, observe and adapt their gestures and practices to magnify the vine and the omnipresent nature. The winegrowers of Bonaguil, both feet in the vineyards, know the harmony of the fragile place and operate smoothly to maintain the balance of this small green paradise. See less
