heritage What are the origins of the iconic Lejay Cassis Cream? LEJAY® invites you to travel back in time in Burgundy, to discover the history of our blackcurrant liqueur and the heritage of the house that will forever remain the first Crème de Cassis in the world. The family history of our blackcurrant cream It all began in 1841 with Auguste-Denis Lagoute. The first liquorist from Dijon, in the heart of Burgundy, had at heart to invent an innovative recipe. This led him to develop the very first Crème de Cassis, with a creamy texture and powerful aromas. Married to Elisabeth Lagoute, daughter of the founder, his son-in-law Henri Lejay became a rising star of the profession. Thanks to him, the notoriety of their Crème de Cassis spread throughout France and beyond its borders. Thus, an exceptional fruit, blackcurrant, came to cement the foundations of a common family history. Since then, LEJAY LAGOUTE has continued to strive for innovation and quality. From generation to generation, LEJAY® has never ceased to excel in its field, paying tribute to the greatness of this fruit and its incomparable aromas. From Dijon to the rest of the world, there is only one step. The company is now recognized in many countries, embodying its values of authenticity, naturalness, lightness and a typical French art of living. Dijon, cradle of blackcurrant cream The Syndicat de défense de la Crème de Cassis de Dijon specifies that "La Crème de Cassis de Dijon is part of the cultural and industrial heritage of the Burgundian capital since the nineteenth century; it must be produced on the territory of the city, thus affirming the know-how of Dijon liqueurs. Our teams carry the quality of our Crème de Cassis well beyond the requirements of the "Geographical Indication", by applying quality control standards among the strictest of our profession to make LEJAY® a flagship product of this city renowned for its gastronomy and its art of living. . Living Heritage Company| The excellence of French know-how The Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label is a mark of recognition by the French government established to distinguish French companies from a know-how of excellence and unique. It rewards the unwavering attachment of Lejay Lagoute to the legacy of its founder Auguste-Denis Lagoute, first liquorist of Dijon and creator of the Crème de Cassis in 1841. This award received in 2017 is the result of the hard work of men and women who work every day to perpetuate our unique know-how. See less
