Description
Mazeyres Castle is an area of about 25ha on Pomerol located on the Catusseau plateau, site of an ancient Gallo-Roman villa. Its south-west positioning on the appellation means that the vines are divided into three distinct types of soils with silty-clay soils, gravelly sablo on clay subsoil, and finally sandy soils on scraps of iron.
This diversity of terroir leads to a grape variety adapted to each type of soil, naturally giving pride of place to merlot but also to a nice proportion of cabernet franc (and a bit of Petit Verdot).
During your visit, you will be welcomed by Stephanie Lesaint, executive assistant of Château Mazeyres for several years, who will be happy to welcome you on the property and pass on her passion for this area.
She will introduce you to the vineyard and explain in detail (if you wish) the farming practices (in biodynamic since 2012 and certified since 2018), will show you the vat in small thermoregulated stainless steel vats allowing for parcel winemaking, and of course the barrel cellar... to finish it will accompany you for the tasting of the wines of the property composed of the main vintage and the second wine "Le Seuil de Mazeyres"

Château Mazeyres (in biodynamics since 2018) is intimately linked to pomerol's history. Its plateau, then served by two main routes, is used by the poet Ausone to go to the villa Lucaniac. Remarkable pottery dating back to the 3rd century has been found on the site of the Castle. They attest to the past existence of a Gallo-Roman villa. The city's archives reveal that the cultivation of vines here dates back to the 14th century. See less
