Description
The area known as "Col del Mondo" is located in the municipality of Collecorvino, a small town near Pescara. The area surrounding the farmhouse is a characteristic setting of hills that stretch from the Apennines to the Adriatic coast. The Apennines, a rugged mountain range often covered with snow including the Gran Sasso and Maiella mountains, dominate the view to the west while to the east, a series of hills gently extends towards the sea. In Pliocene times, these surroundings were occupied by a sea opposite to the young mountain range. The rivers have since brought with them silt, depositing clays, lime and sand. The next period, called the Pleistocene, is characterized by glaciations. Meanwhile, the Abruzzo region was formed by a series of glaciers and valleys dug into the rock as a result of rivers from vast bodies of water.
From an orographic point of view, Collecorvino is located to the left of the Tavo Valley with plots of land varying from an altitude of 150 to 300 meters. The soil is nothing but varied and differs according to the hillside and the time at which the soil was formed. It is very common to find clay marls, often limestone or furniture, rich in skeletal material, especially around the tops of hills. This is indeed the case of the highest relief of the area which is called "Colle del Mondo". Here we can find a soil rich in morainic material that gives life to an old strain of the small but very pleasant Montepulciano Wine grape variety.

The history of the Tenuta del Priore and the Col del Mondo winery is closely linked to emotions. The never-soothed aspiration of the embrace of the native land, the love for untouched nature, the hills of pescarese which, descending from the ranks towards the distant urban civilization, traced the dimension of the passion for these grapes that seemed to evoke a call. A story punctuated by the beating of three hearts, by an intimate desire to resume her life where she began, in the countryside of Collecorvino, in this neighborhood destined to become the definitive dwelling. It was then, after a long discussion and planning, evaluated and calculated, that the Mazzocchetti cousins - Vincenzo and his brother Giulio with his cousin Antonio - decided on the great return. It was in 1973 that the Mazzocchetti cousins created the Tenuta del Priore, inspiring the name of grandfather Vincenzo, whom everyone in the region respectfully called "the Prior". We are in 2017 when there is the handover, the change of generation. The company that unites Tenuta del Priore and Col del mondo is led by Fabrizio with Antonio and Stefano Mazzocchetti, a very close-knit family unit that summarizes the company that merges in 2018 the commercial brands in the perspective of new horizons, to develop further, with judgment and quality.
