La Livinière
User profile description

Nestled on the southern flank of the Montagne Noire, the southern edge of the Massif Central, facing Mount Alaric, avant-garde of the Pyrenees, La Livinière spreads its vineyard above this valley of the Aude, steeped in history, an essential passage between the Mediterranean and Atlantic worlds. Very close to the Canal du Midi, its trees and its nonchalance, halfway to Narbonne la-Romaine, also a town of this Aymerillot that Victor Hugo sang, and of Carcassonne-la-fière where raymond Trencavel's oriflamme still floats. Here, the sun, the exposure; the climate and the nature of the soils have united to give life to these unique wines, whose fame is well established: the wines of the LA LIVINIERE appellation. 30 km from the famous city of Carcassonne, the vineyard is planted on the hills of La Livinière (Petit Causse region of the Minervois AOC). The vineyard extends in terraces (slopes of 5 to 10%), at an altitude of 250 m, facing south, sheltered from the north winds. Area: 40 Ha (98 acres) Terroir: very stony soils with a predominantly clay-limestone rich in manganese. The terroir is exceptional because of its nature of soil and exposure: the soil is covered with pebbles that limit erosion during heavy precipitation, and retain summer moisture by limiting evaporation due to winds).
