Peyriac-de-Mer
User profile description

Created by the Estève family, Château Montfin is situated in Peyriac de Mer on the hills overlooking the Etang de Bages and the Mediterranean. The property covers about twenty hectares on clay-limestone soils, made from Mediterranean and Rhone varieties (Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Roussanne, Vermentino). Concerned about preserving the environment for future generations, Château Montfin has adopted an organic farming approach to production, while at the same time striving to reveal the character of the terroir in its wines. More than 1,000 trees have been planted around the vines in order to protect the plots from the prevailing wind, to increase the presence of useful fauna and to re-establish a balance of biodiversity. In order to improve the general condition of the soils, Château Montfin has introduced green manure (sowing composed of a mixture of cereals and legumes) in the vines, with the aim of improving the organic matter content, reducing water loss and stabilising the soil against heavy rainfall.
