Lectoure
User profile description

Located on the Plateau de Lectoure, in the heart of Gascony, the Domaine d'Arton covers 88 hectares of vineyards. It enjoys excellent natural conditions conducive to the production of wines but also Armagnacs of very high quality. The clay-limestone soils, rich and fertile, are naturally filtering, traversed in their low bottom of underground springs towards which the roots of our vines plunge. This fiery deployment is reflected in the liveliness of the vine, a mirror effect at the origin of the grace of our wines and Armagnacs. Oceanic humidity, the Mediterranean mildness carried by the easterly winds and continental influences lead to mild and humid winters and hot, often stormy summers, whose thermal alternation between day and night benefits the aromatic potential of the grapes. The fertile land of Arton is characteristic of Haut Armagnac, one of the three AOC production sub-regions of Armagnac's eau de vie. Armagnac. A historical wine-growing territory, it is the cradle of the brandy that bears its name, the flagship of Gascon gastronomy. We say our region "Haut Armagnac" because it overlooks the rest of Gascony, a landscape of hillsides that rise from the Pyrenees to the Garonne. This region is called "Armagnac Blanc" because its hills, where peyrusquet limestones outcrop, reflect the light. It is said to be confidential because its vineyard, devastated by phylloxera at the end of the nineteenth century, is very little replanted. Patrick de Montal is also the first to reintroduce the vines on the Lectoure plateau, thus restoring the thread of history. The art of planting is to make the earth say what is best it has To the natural heritage of the Domaine d'Arton is added an original grape variety: 8 grape varieties (Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet) spread over 19 plots around the Chartreuse, like so many small vineyards, each with its own identity. Because, here, it is Nature that speaks. To pay tribute to the land is to respect its diversity, that of the soils whose heterogeneity plays on the aromas of wines and Armagnacs, that of exposure to the sun and the wind essential for the vine to grow and give the desired grapes, that of the grape varieties which makes the richness and complexity of our blends. The vineyard of Arton is designed as a tapestry, a meticulous combination of vines that offers the wine produced on each plot a particular typicity. Nothing is left to chance. Each grape variety is planted on the plot that best suits it and each plot benefits from a follow-up adapted to its specificity. This is one of the secrets of our excellence. This diversity of plots is a bold bias that signs the personality of our wines and Armagnacs. Assembled with subtlety, our different grape varieties give our production a very special character. It is Arton's signature and the assurance, year after year, of the constancy of taste that distinguishes us. Arton's signature The wines and Armagnacs of the Domaine d'Arton carry an ambition, that of exploring the oenological potential of the Haut Armagnac region. The geological richness of Haut Armagnac allows us to combine the wine tradition of the region with our creative spirit to express our terroir in an innovative way. Preserve local know-how and innovate, highlight the unique expressions of our land. By freeing ourselves from an overly literal reading of the Gascon canons, we reinvent them on their place of origin to carry a region, Gascony, and a vision, that of Arton. The singularity of the wines and Armagnacs of Arton imposes the Haut Armagnac as a land of innovation.
