Domaine Mas S.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape
User profile description

otre Domaine was constituted by Jean-Louis GENIEST more than a hundred years ago, by regrouping family lands located near the old road from Avignon to Châteauneuf du Pape. Jean-Louis GENIEST came from a long line of coopers-cordiers established on the banks of the Rhone and known since the eighteenth century. The coopers-cordiers made barrels and barrels of various capacities as well as ropes intended to anchor them on the boats, for the "astade" of the Rhone to Lyon, Burgundy and Paris, carried out using teams of 30 horses on average circulating on the towpaths. Jean-Louis GENIEST acquired in 1909 the Maison Vigneronne, at 28 avenue du Baron Le Roy, Clos district in Châteauneuf du Pape, to vinify the harvests from his plots located around the old "Mas Saint-Louis", he then rebuilt the old winemaking vats that were there; tanks, which are periodically renovated, are still in use. Then he was succeeded by his son Gabriel and his grandson Louis. Louis GENIEST ( winebnb.com ) was keen to amplify the work of the founder by acquiring new plots of vines, bringing together some by multiple exchanges resulting in a magnificent homogeneous and harmonious Domain of more than 30 hectares in one piece. His action was extended by his son Jean, eminent jurist, doctor of law, and now, Monique GENIEST, the wife of the latter, animates the Domain, favoring the improvement of soils and crops, as well as the modernization of equipment.
