Description

Join us for an exceptional wine event.

Georgia is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. The fertile valleys and protective slopes of the Transcaucasia were home to grapevine cultivation and neolithic wine production for at least 8000 years.
Currently, the wine is produced by thousands of small farmers (using primarily traditional techniques of wine-making), as well as certain monasteries, and modern wineries.
Georgia territorial and climate conditions are optimal for red/wite wine-making. Extremes of weather are unusual: summers tend to be short-sleeve sunny, and winters mild and frost-free. Natural springs abound, and the Caucasian Mountain streams drain mineral-rich water into the valleys.

With every one of our wines on offer, there will certainly be a wine to suit your taste. The Taste of Georgia team will be on hand to chat through each wine and help you find your ideal choice. All wines will be available to buy on the day at a special event discount.

There will be more than 20 wines on offer accompanied by Georgian snacks and a Churchkhela making experience.

While tasting and embracing the Georgian culture in the heart of London’s Marylebone, we are privileged to introduce a new Georgian designer, Shalva with his exquisite handmade jewellery collection 'Iagundi' exhibited here for the very first time exclusively for Taste of Georgia.

So come along and join us for a relaxed evening, tasting our great Georgian wines and discover more about Georgia and its rich and vibrant traditions.

QVEVRI BAIA'S WINES - GVANTSA'S OTSKAHNURI SAPERE - Red
2018
Vintage: 2018
This wine made by young winemaker Gvantsa Abuladze using one of the 525 indigenous Georgian grape varieties found on Baia’s Wine estate in the village of Obcha. All red varietals grown in Imereti are high in acidity and lower in sugar due to the humidity of the region. Otskhanuri Sapere is especially known for its inky dark colour. The grapes are handpicked, and hand sorted. After de-stemming the wine is pressed and put into qvevri with skins where fermentation starts spontaneously. Once fermentation is completed the skins are removed and the wine is aged in qvevri.

Tasting Notes

This intense dark coloured wine has notes of pomegranate and sour cherry with cool crispness, medium-plus bodied and a super dry firm fresh tannin finish. Decanting is recommended.
